Arriving late in the 1982 model year (January of 1982) Chevy said the redesigned Camaro captured "the essence of the contemporary American performance expression." The 62-degree windshield produced one of the lowest drag coefficient readings ever measured by GM. The all-new fastback body was nearly 10 in. shorter than that of the previous Camaro and was also lighter by some 470 lbs. For the first time in Camaro's history a 4 cylinder engine (the "Iron Duke" built by Pontiac) was available and was the standard engine for the Camaro sport coupe.
