Q. My trim tag date is unreadable can you tell me about when my Camaro was built according to the VIN? -OR- I have a Camaro that I think the trim tag has been changed out. Can you tell approximately what the last six digits of the VIN should be for a certain trim tag date?

A. Well like with anything else there seems to be different numbers depending on who you are asking. Everything is basically an estimation. There are many reasons for these differences and they include but are not limited to: The most important one being that vehicles were not assembled in the exact order of the VIN. Do not use the last VIN of any given month as an absolute set in stone number. It is very likely that some Camaros with a slightly lower number could have already been assembled or ones with a slightly higher number could still be in process being assembled. Another very important thing to consider is that the cowl tag was attached as much as 4 days before final assembly of the car so build week dates did not always align exactly with the calendar weeks. Other things to consider is that is in not know where exactly in the production process GM recorded this data nor is it known what day of the month or for that matter time of day was used to record the monthly production.
